Wilma "Joann" Sisil, age 92, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in Ozark. She was born October 3, 1924 in Indiana, the daughter of Ray and Doris (Jeffers) Gabbard. On February 28, 1942, she and Darrell Sisil were married in Kentucky. For most of her life, Joann was a homemaker. During World War II, she worked as an airplane riveter at the Henry Ford plant in Detroit.
She and Darrell, with two small sons in tow, moved to California in 1948. She became a Christian as a young adult at the Pomona Church of the Nazarene in California. At that church, Joann taught a jr. high Sunday school class, was missionary society president, and hosted many church guests in their home. She had been a member of the Nixa Church of the Nazarene since moving to Missouri in 1998.
In California, Joann loved the beach. After moving to Colorado in 1992, she loved the mountains.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronald Sisil and partner Donetta Smith (CO), and Jeffrey Sisil and wife Christine (CA); daughter, Debra Gill and husband Ed of Nixa; grandsons, Matthew Smith and wife Kameron (CO), Tyler Smith and wife Jenny (CA), and Samuel Sisil (CA); a granddaughter, Chloe Sisil (CA); and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Madison and Daner (CO).
Joann was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Darrell Sisil; son, Darrell Ray Sisil; son-in-law, Kevin Smith; brother, Bill Gabbard; and infant sister, Phyllis Gabbard.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, at Nixa Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Gary Swearengin officiating. Burial was in Hopedale Cemetery, Ozark.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Nixa Church of the Nazarene Mission Fund.
