Jimmie L. Whipple, age 73, of Nixa, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011. He was born October 18, 1937 in Greeley, Colorado, the son of George and Naomi (Davis) Whipple. On May 29, 1959 he and Janet Faye Hannah were united in marriage in LaVerne, California. Jim taught at SMSU after receiving his Bachelor?s degree there and while working on this Master?s degree from Central Missouri State University from where he graduated in 1982. He then taught Industrial Education at Gibson Vocational School in Reeds Spring. He met Janet while working for Western Union as a sales manager. He served in the Civil Air Patrol. Jim enjoyed auto racing, stunt work and acting. He was an extra in the movie Giant and Streets of San Francisco. He and Janet enjoyed spending time with their family at their lake home in Cape Fair. Survivors include: two children and their spouses, Tammy and Al Manes, Nixa, and Daren and Deena Whipple, Marshfield; four grandchildren, Lidia Whipple, Casey Whipple and wife Casey, Brandon Manes and Jeremy Manes; two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Lincoln; a sister, Kay Troudt, Ft. Collins, Colorado; a brother, Claude Whipple and wife Lorene, Greeley, Colorado; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, on June 19, 2011, a son, Doug, on July 6, 2000, a brother, Robert, in 1981, and his parents. A memorial service will be 6:30 PM Thursday, August 18, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Jamie Bilyeu officiating. Visitation will follow until 8:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Riverdale Baptist Church or Jones-Chastain Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
