Jim Atkinson, age 85, of Clever, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, in his home. He was born June 27, 1927, in Bakersfield, Missouri, the only child of Alvis and Susie (Mullins) Atkinson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Army serving in World War II and also the Korean War. He and Louise Cotter were united in marriage on June 7, 1958. Jim was a heavy equipment operator and retired member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was a member of Bayou Masonic Lodge #365AF & AM in Bakersfield. Jim attended Union Hill Church of Christ in Nixa. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and papaw. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially loved mowing his lawn. Survivors include: His loving wife, Louise; two children and their spouses, Eddie and Trish Atkinson, and Karen and Mike Gohr, all of Clever; two grandchildren, Cody Gohr and wife Regina, and Brittany Conner and husband Trevor; two step-grandchildren, Jodie Payne and Duke Schupbach; a great-grandchild, Leighton Gohr; two step-great-grandchildren, John and Emma Schupbach; brothers-in-law, John Cotter and wife Aileen and J.D. Barber and wife Louise; sisters-in-law, Roxie Cotter and Corene Hodges; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 20, in Union Hill Church of Christ in Nixa. Burial with military honors will follow in Frazier Cemetery, Boaz. Visitation including a masonic service will be from 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
