James Dean Anthony Means

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of James Dean Anthony Means. James was born on August 20, 1986, to Tony Means and Karen Ready. He departed this life far too soon on January 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and an unyielding spirit. 

James grew up as part of a military family, a lifestyle that took him across the world to places like Germany, Hawaii, Texas, and Kansas, before settling in Missouri. Among all these places, Herington, Kansas, held a special place in his heart. There, he forged lifelong memories riding BMX bikes, playing with friends, and sharing adventures with his best friend, Tanner. 

A graduate of Parkview High School, Class of 2004, James lived life with passion and enthusiasm. He was a natural daredevil, never backing down from a challenge, especially if it came with the promise of earning a dollar. He enjoyed skateboarding, swimming and rap music. 

An avid Bible reader and lover of scripture, James possessed the heart of a theologian, often quoting verses and using them as a guiding light through life’s challenges.  

A lover of animals and a dedicated supporter of the Humane Society, James had a heart of gold. He was selfless to a fault, often giving away everything he had, even his last penny, to help others. His generosity knew no bounds. 

James was a deeply protective and caring soul, always ready to stand up for those he loved. While he often struggled with self-confidence, his ability to lift others up and his unwavering devotion to the people and causes he believed in left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He had a heart of gold for others but not always enough heart for himself.  

James will be remembered for his boundless compassion, fierce loyalty, and remarkable ability to pour himself wholly into everything he set his mind to. He was an example of humility, strength, and faith. 

James is survived by: a father, Tony (Carol) Means; a mother, Karen Ready; a stepfather, Rock Wilson; a grandfather, Butch Ready, four brothers, Noah Wilson, David Wilson, Jacob Timmons, Derrick Horner; two sisters, Kourtney Dawn (Ryan) Brown, Janee Timmons; two uncles, Michael (Tina) Means, James (Beth) Ready; three nephews, Tucker, Eli, Xander; three nieces Kinleigh, Tierney, Sisilia. 

James is preceded in death by: his grandparents, Patsy and Harold Means, Ellen Clifton, Emily Jane Ready.  

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri with Pastor Ryan Brown officiating. A visitation will precede the service at 12:00 PM.  Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri and cremation rites are accorded to Adams Crematory.
