James Samuel Marrs

December 25, 1927 — August 30, 2013

James Samuel Marrs, age 85, of Nixa, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in his home with his family at his side. Jim was a loving, devoted husband and father, a cherished grandfather, and a special friend to all who knew him. He was born December 25, 1927, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, the son of Rev. Samuel and Marilla (Caster) Marrs. He served his country in the Japan occupation forces during World War II. On October 23, 1955, he and Alice Nadine Tucker were united in marriage. Jim was an accountant for the Frisco Railroad (later Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe) for 32 years in Springfield. He loved the Lord as his Savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He continued to keep busy following retirement, and in 1991 he and Nadine moved to Kingman, Arizona, to care for his mother-in-law, Lola Tucker and, while there, enjoyed the fellowship of their First Baptist Church. They moved to Nixa in 2008, becoming part of the family of Victory Baptist Church. Survivors include: his loving wife, Nadine; three sons, Jim Wesley of Springfield, David Dean and wife Claire of San Antonio, Texas, and Kevin Lee and wife Vicki of Centennial, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Melissa, Michelle, Lisa, Erika, and Nathaniel; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa; and a sister in-law, Betty Marrs. Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean in 1968, a grandson Chad Marrs, his twin brother John Marrs and his older brother and sister, Charles Marrs and Janet Mori. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, at Victory Baptist Church in Nixa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson"s Foundation. The family extends their thanks to members and staff of Mercy Hospital, Victory Baptist Church, and Mercy Hospice for the compassionate care, support and meals provided to help ease Jims" passing. Your kindness and generosity are sincerely appreciated.
