James Mahoney better known as “Big Jim” by close friends and family, age 75 passed away on Saturday August 13th in his home surrounded by loved ones after a battle with several illnesses. He was born in Middletown New York on Oct 13, 1946, to his parents Jean & Doris Mahoney.
He loved his country and fought for it as a member of the United States Navy in the Vietnam war where he received multiple awards and medals for his bravery. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who put family before himself but God above all and was an active member of Nixa General Baptist Church for many years. He loved to watch hockey and football with family and friends. He was a proud member of the NRA. He loved trucking and everything it entailed. His favorite past time was sitting with family giving everyone a rough time, sharing stories of his life and laughing with a room full of people. As a child he enjoyed buying and rebuilding cars from a junkyard with his father. He carried that passion on with him through his life showing his children and grandchildren different things to do on their own vehicles. He was a lover of carpentry and helping to figure out how to build things.
He is survived by his wife Janet Mahoney his children Jim, Ken, Kim and Jeff and his grandchildren, David, Kiera, Travis, Dale, Rebecca Rose and Shawn.
A funeral will be held at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, at 2:30 P.M. on August 22, 2022.
The family will be hosting a chili dinner in Big Jim’s honor at his home proceeding services at 703 S Rice St., Nixa. If you have any questions, please reach out to any of the relatives for information.
