James (Jim) R. Jenkins was born on April 7,1945, in Sparta, to James I. “Jimps” Jenkins and Audrey (Heinze) Jenkins. On April 10, 1971, he married Lana K. Stone.
Jim Jenkins served in the United States Navy both active and reserves for a total of 10 years, serving in Vietnam for a year, as a commissioned officer with a rank of Lieutenant JG. He was employed by The Citizens Bank of Sparta for 39 years. Jim and Lana have attended First Baptist Church of Ozark for 36 years where they have served faithfully. Jim enjoyed living on a small farm in Sparta, where he took care of a variety of animals. Jim loved people well and was well loved. He left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Though he will be missed by many, he is in his eternal home with Jesus!
He enjoyed reading, fishing, farming, gardening, serving the Lord, watching his grandkids activities, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Buttons.
Survivors include: Wife Lana (Stone) Jenkins; three sons, Andrew T. Jenkins and wife Tara, Mark A. Jenkins and wife Jennifer, and Grant D. Jenkins and wife Rebekah, all located in Ozark, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kaelin Jenkins, Madelyn and Luke Jenkins, Isaac and Audrey Jenkins; three siblings Julia (Judy) Himes, John D. Jenkins, both of Sparta, Missouri, and JoAnne Sterling, Auburndale, Florida; best friend and dog, Buttons; other relatives and many beloved friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, in First Baptist Church, Ozark from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23 in the church. A graveside funeral with military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to First Baptist Church of Ozark, building fund.
