James "Ben" Casey

James Benjamin Allen Casey, age 85 years, 10 months, 11 days, went to be with Jesus on October 14, 2023. He left this earth surrounded by his family. Ben was born on December 3, 1937 to Oren and Maggie (Nance) Casey in Chadwick, Missouri.

Ben proposed to the love of his life, Marcelene Johnson, on a forestry tower in Douglas County, Missouri. They were united in marriage on October 6, 1963, recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. To this union, two daughters were born. Ben and Marcie were members of the Nixa General Baptist Church in Nixa, Missouri.

Ben was a very hard worker and a good provider for his family. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician. He worked for the Conservation Commission in Howell County, followed by working as a insurance adjuster. Ben worked at Associated Grocers in Springfield, Missouri, and served as a deputy sheriff in Christian County for two years. Ben was a dedicated letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service for more than 30 years before retirement.

He was the best husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Wayne Casey and Bill Casey, and four sisters, infant Linda Casey, Juanita Lambeth, Betty Halcomb, and Lorene Pare.

Survivors include: His wife, Marcelene Casey of Ozark; two daughters, Melissa Brightwell and husband Mike of Republic, Missouri, and Kimberly Casey of Miller, Missouri; his loving grandson Austin of Nixa, Missouri; a sister, Carol Dusek and her husband, Frank of Phillips, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law Elwyn Pare of Granite City, Illinois; along with many additional family members and friends.

A graveside funeral will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 19, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, with Pastor John Comer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
