John "Jack" Arthur Tolliver, 82, was called to heaven December 30, 2017. He passed quietly at home in Osceola, MO with loved ones by his side holding his hands. Born in Boone Iowa and raised in Independence Missouri, he joined the military, first in the Marines then transferring to the Army, where he served from 1954 to 1960 including two tours in Korea.
After being honorably discharged he made his home in California where he met, fell in love with and married his wife of 56 years Diane "Dee" Miller. They had three daughters, Theresa, Mary and Colleen before settling in Torrance, CA to raise them. In 1976, he joined the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners. His daughters all joined Job's Daughters. He was twice Worshipful Master of his Ascot Lodge, and served as Treasurer and Associate Bethel Guardian for his daughter's Bethel.
In 1985 the family moved to Osceola to be near his parents. They owned and operated Osceola Sundries and became members of First Christian Church of Osceola.
He is preceded in death by his parents Collin "Hap" and Bessie Tolliver, sister Beverly and her husband James Ashlock, and sister Nola Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife Diane "Dee" Tolliver, daughters Theresa, son in-law Jerry Buchner and Granddaughter Kimberlee Buchner of Maple Valley, Washington, daughter Mary Tolliver and partner Cindy Mofield of Springfield, Missouri and daughter Colleen and son in-law John Putnam of Osceola, Missouri. Sister in-law Honora "Noni" Miller of Osceola, Missouri, his best friend/brother, Steve Patterson of Gainesville, TX, brother Roger and wife Laura Tolliver of Leavenworth, Kansas and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His memorial service will be held at First Christian Church of Osceola Disciples of Christ January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
