Jackie Lee “Jack” Tapley, age 91, of Ozark, passed away in his home Friday, April 7, 2023. He was born September 25, 1931, in Wynne, Arkansas, the son of Lee and Gertie (Mauppin) Tapley. On July 3, 1958, Jack and Mary Gladys Stanley were united in marriage.
Jack served a total of 11 years in The Army and Air Force. He served in Greenland and fought in the Korean War. Following his time in the service Jack worked for the Civil Service until retirement. He and Mary lived in St. Peters, Missouri, and in 1993 moved to Ozark. Both Jack and Mary were dedicated to their church, Ozark First Baptist. Jack enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include: His wife, Mary; two children, Diane Gift of Ozark, and Karen Aman and husband Mike of Lawson, Missouri; two grandchildren, Lucas Gift and wife Theresa, and Brianna Gift; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah Fowler, Mary Helen Pruitt, and Leta Norquest, three brothers, Bobby Tapley and Charles Tapley, and Arthur Anderson, and his parents.
Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 12, at Ozark First Baptist Church. A funeral will follow at the church at 2:00 PM with Dr. Phillip Burden officiating. Burial with military honors will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 13, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
