Jack Dee Davis

d. July 28, 2015

Jackie Dee Davis was born to Opal (Grider) and Lincoln Davis on October 23, 1932. He was promoted to his heavenly home on July 28, 2015 to receive his reward and be reunited with his mother, father, wife (Reba Thornton) and a multitude of family and friends. Jack and Reba were united in marriage on August 23, 1952. To this union one daughter, Sheila Ann Davis Carroll, was born while Jack was serving his country in the Army in El Paso, Texas during the Korean War in 1954. Jack grew up during the great depression in Highlandville, Missouri. Jack was Auctioneer of the Year in 2013 and was honored at a National Auto Auction Association in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jack first began practicing his auctioneering in 1945 at the age of 13, and he convinced his father to let him leave school early one day to visit a local sale barn. Noting his continued presence and interest, the owner allowed Jack to handle the sale of chickens, fence posts, milk cans-any kind of miscellaneous item sold prior to the livestock sales. After about six weeks, Jack was asked to sell cattle, which he did while attending high school, graduating from Spokane in 1949. He did his formal training under the tutelage of Tony Thornton, who taught at the World Wide College of Auctioneering. Jack lived in Springfield, Missouri, where he traveled announcing rodeos and horse shows as well as a variety of auctions. In 1960, Jack moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana where he began his 37 year career traveling twice a week to Dyer, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. After Reba passed away, Jack married Johnette Crum and they moved to Madisonville, Kentucky where he lived until March of this year. He spent the last few months of his adventurous journey living with his daughter and her husband, David Carroll, in Cabool, Missouri. Jack never met a stranger, always had a story for every topic, and was a legend in his own right. He enabled many people of all ages to have better lives due to his overwhelming generosity and encouragement. He had a passion for all breathing creatures and gave many horses, mules, dogs (and some people!) homes and spoiled them. He has created (as he would say) "untellin" memories for strangers, friends and family. You could not be in his presence without laughing and being entertained…even on his death bed. When he knew his last minutes were drawing nigh his daughter asked him if there was anything he would like and he said, "I just want to take a nap!" He will leave a void that no one can fill but we all must try to fill in the gap. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sister, Hazel Stockard, and wife, Reba. He is survived by sister Helen Stewart and her husband, Charles of Springfield, Missouri; sister Patricia Stegelman of Madisonville, Kentucky; daughter Sheila Carroll and her husband, David of Cabool, Missouri; grandson Jack Carroll and wife, Jamie and their two sons, Jackson and Gage of Highlandville, Missouri; granddaughter Abigail Warneke and her husband, Mike and their three boys Gideon, Abel and Solomon of Cabool, Missouri; and granddaughter Ashleigh Jones and her husband, Michael and their two children, Phoebe and Lincoln of Highlandville, Missouri. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, his Mt. Pisgah church family, Blue Jay Caf buddies, best friend Doc and almost daughter, Helen Sheets and almost son, Brad Wagner. His motto was, "The truth will stand when the world is on fire." A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor David Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in Highlandville Cemetery, Highlandville. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 in the funeral home.
