Born Iris Virginia Otterman in Monett, Missouri on May 21, 1919 to Dorothy Christine Otterman and Mearl Turpin, Virginia graduated high school and attended college in Springfield, Missouri where she studied art. During World War II she worked in the administrative office of O"Reily Hospital in Springfield before moving to Wichita, Kansas where she did office work for Beech Aircraft. After the war Virginia married Lee Hawkins on November 2, l946, and the two of them settled in Ozark, Missouri. Virginia designed their home on the banks of the Finley River just down the street from the historic Hawkins family business, Ozark Mill and Elevator. They raised two children, Ronald Lee and Linda Ann in Ozark. In l988, Lee and Virginia moved to Greeley, Colorado to be near their grandsons. They moved two blocks from their daughter and her husband and were very involved with helping raise their three grandsons. Lee and Virginia enjoyed long drives in Colorado and neighboring states. It was a day trip for them to go to Wyoming, Kansas or Nebraska. They enjoyed driving to Estes Park and Trail Ridge Road to see the elk and other wildlife. Lee passed away six years ago and Virginia missed him every day. Virginia loved feeding and watching the birds with her grand-dog, Haley, reading magazines, remodeling, gardening, telling life stories, but above all being with her grandsons. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wallace, son-in-law Scott Wallace and grandsons, Trevor, Collin, and Jarred. Preceded in death by her husband Lee Hawkins and son Ronald Lee Hawkins. Services will be held at 1:00 PM in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, Missouri on Saturday May 21st. We would like to thank her precious caregivers who assisted Virginia the last 6 months of her life, as well as those who became part of her family through services and friendship in her last years.
