Iona O. Maggard

Iona Ottolene (Hampton) Maggard, age 94 years, 4 months, and 30 days, passed to her heavenly Home January 13, 2016. Iona was born August 14, 1921 near Goodhope, MO to Aaron and Rosa (Nelson) Hampton. She was a servant of God and member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Highlonesome. On February 26, 1939 she was united in marriage to Roy Preston Maggard by Rev. John Shine in Merrit, MO. They were blessed with three children. Iona worked outside the home as well as on the family farm. She truly enjoyed her time with family and friends, cooking, sewing, attending church, and taking care of her animals. She was always busy, active and willing to help or just listen whenever she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and children Bonita Nelson and Ivan Maggard. Also preceding her in death were 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by: a son, Ervin Maggard and wife Sandra; son-in-law Jerry Nelson; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Preston Hampton and wife Louise; and was "Aunt Onie" to many nieces, nephews and family friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Highlonesome with Pastor James Orick officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
