Homer Dean “Hoot” Gibson, 84, of Nixa passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Hoot was born on December 7, 1937 in Denver, CO; the son of Homer Dain and Helen Marie (Hannah) Gibson. Hoot worked as a truck driver over the decades, first as a milkman and finally retiring from Roadway after 27 years. Hoot was also known around the area for singing, playing, and performing comedy at The Oldfield Opry. He loved his family and helping others, especially his friends in AA. Hoot was a hardworker who enjoyed mowing and landscaping with his dog, Sam, but could also be found enjoying riding his motorcycle with a big grin on his face.
Survivors include: his sister, Janet (Kenny) Jackson of Rogersville; four children, Teresa (Raymond) Keller of Fair Grove, Doug (Kerri) Gibson of Nixa; Amy (Dustin) Chamberlain of Crane, and Emily (Rich) Langston of Nixa; ten grandchildren, Abigail Mirree, Lonna Taber, Holly (Gibson) Skinner, Austin, Hailey, and Mylee Chamberlain, and Asher, Owen, Oliver, and Avery Langston; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Cremation Rites have been accorded by Adams Crematory. A Memorial Service will be held for Hoot at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark. Friends and relatives are invited to a Visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home, from 3:00-4:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Hoot’s life may be made to Selmore Cemetery or the AA Central Office of Springfield.
