Hildred C. Carpenter

Hildred C. Carpenter went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 27, 2011, at age 80. Her place of birth was Vinita, Oklahoma, born to Clay J. and Lessie Manley. Her childhood years up through high school were on a farm northwest of Vinita, however, she referred to herself as "a merchant"�s daughter"�, since her parents also owned a country store. She was preceded in death by both parents, brother Eugene and wife Loretta, brother Beach and wife Pauline, sister Verma and husband Ralph. She is survived by her husband Vernon, daughter Verna, daughter Valerie, son Karl and wife Allison, along with eight grandchildren; also brother-in-law Odell Carpenter and sister-in-law Roena. After high school, Hildred moved to Kansas, attending Jr. College in Arkansas City, Kansas. After college came marriage to her high school sweetheart. She followed her husband to California when he was drafted into the army, then while he was in Korea, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, going to work at Cessna Aircraft. Later, she quit work to have her three children. As they began to grow up, she went back to work as a substitute school teacher, after that, a couple of office jobs leading into fulltime bookkeeping, which was her major occupation during her working years. Her latest position was full time bookkeeper at her church, Bethel Life Center, in Wichita, follow by retirement to Missouri. Hildred was an excellent cook and homemaker, full of love and generosity toward her family and friends. As a dedicated Christian, she worked many years with youth and young girls at church. She was currently a member of Evangel Temple Christian Center in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services will be 9:30 AM Monday, October 31, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 "� 7:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home.
