Helen (Imogene) Stewart Ellingsworth of Spokane went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 8, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
Imogene was born on September 22, 1926, to Roy and Merle (Bass) Stewart. She graduated Spokane High School in 1945. After graduation, she went to San Francisco, California, where she worked delivering mail in the shipyard during WW2 on a motor scooter.
On July 5, 1947, Imogene Stewart married Clifford Ellingswoth in the First Baptist Church of Spokane by Rev. Worth Caughron. To this union, three children were born. Imogene was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Imogene worked part time for the Spokane Post Office. She then became postmaster, serving the Spokane community for 21 years until retirement. Imogene was vital in helping plan and put together the Post Office centennial in 1992.
Imogene loved to garden. She was still actively gardening into her 90s. She loved kids and was involved in the local 4-H, where she was a community leader. She served in the First Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher and WMU. In 1972, she joined the Highlandville First Baptist Church and then, for the last 30 years, Imogene was a member of South Gate Baptist Church.
Imogene was preceded by her parents, husband Clifford, son Ron Ellingsworth, brothers Don Stewart, Joe Bill Stewart, Homer Stewart, sisters Lola Madden, and Lorene Argie.
Imogene is survived by her daughter Rhonda Carr and husband Dexter, son Monty Ellingsworth, four grandchildren Danny, Niki, and Amber Ellingsworth, Corey Carr and wife Bayli, six great grandchildren Brianna, Jaden, Cruse Ellingsworth, Wyatt, Stetson, and Kyzlee Carr, great great grandson Colton, as well as a host of extended family and beloved friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to South Gate Baptist Church in memory of Imogene.
Services will be held 2 pm Monday June 13, 2022 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation will begin at 1 pm until service time. Following the funeral service, burial will take place at Highlandville Cemetery.
