Harvey Wray Martin

Harvey W. Martin, 94, passed away December 7, 2012 at James River Care and Rehabilitation, Springfield. He was born January 14, 1918 in Davis County, Iowa, the son of Ota and Hazel (Harvey) Martin. He married Velma L. Foster on June 26, 1944 in Lancaster, Missouri. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years in 2010; his parents; an infant sister, Ruth and his brother, Donald. Harvey is survived by his son, Larry Martin and wife Joyce, Highlandville; his daughter, Lois Hanson and husband Cleo, Springfield and grandson, Brian Martin, Springfield. Harvey served in the Army during WWII and advanced to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was assigned to several military posts in the United States and was with the 84th Infantry Division in Europe. He was captured at the Rhine River and was a POW for 2 months. Harvey was employed at various jobs during his working career and retired from Bendix Instrument and Life Support in Davenport, Iowa in 1979 after 23 years of service where he worked as a test equipment technician. Harvey was a long time resident of Ozark. A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Harvey's family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at James River Care and Rehabilitation and Dr. Thomas Dahlberg for their kindness and care.
