H. Rose Barbee April 29, 1923 "� September 28, 2013 Rose Barbee passed away September 28, 2013, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. She was born in Montrose, CO on April 29, 1923, to Frank and Mae Donaldson. She moved to Grand Junction with her family at an early age. Rose attended Grand Junction High School. After graduating, she joined the Navy where she served her country for four years. She was very proud of her military service. Rose was married to E.L. "Jake" Barbee on February 18, 1944. Rose and Jake lived in Richmond, CA for two years after Jake was discharged from the Navy. They then moved to the Grand Valley, living in Fruita, where they farmed for 30 years. They raised sugar beets; were named the top producers of Mesa County several times, and always placed in the top ten of producers. Rose helped with all the farming, Jake said she was the best truck driver he ever had. Rose enjoyed many things in life. She was a HAM Radio Operator, she loved to water ski, and fish with the family. Jake and Rose had a cabin at Cimmaron, CO, where they spent many days snow mobiling with friends and family. They also loved to square dance. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fredrick and Jack Donaldson; sisters, Winifred Billings, and Natalie Levengood; daughter-in-law, Alice Faye Barbee; husband of 59 years, E.L. "Jake" Barbee, and many other family members and friends. She is survived by sons, Gary of Virginia Beach, VA; Bill of Golden, CO; Jim of Casa Grande, AZ, and Dennis of Ozark, MO; daughter, JoAnn Young of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and special cousins, Ernie and Florence Veo of Montrose. A service for Rose will be held October 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. She will be taken to Ozark, MO to be buried in the Veteran's Cemetery beside her husband on October 11, 2013 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in her name to be made to HopeWest Hospice. They took very special care of Rose in her final days. Graveside service under the care of Adams Funeral Home Ozark Missouri.
