Granville W. Akers, age 90, of Nixa, passed away early Thursday morning, April 23, 2015. He was born in Norwood to his parents Homer J. and Grace J. (Smith) Akers, September 6, 1924. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Irene Brixey on August 16, 1942, at his parents' home in Norwood, by Ben F. Nall. They had been married 72 years until Myrtle's passing in 2014.
Granville served 21 � years in the U. S. Navy as a cook during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam. After Granville retired from the Navy, he worked in construction and auctioneering. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as long as his health allowed. He also enjoyed singing with a group at churches and nursing homes. Granville liked to cook at church camps. He attended One Accord Free Will Baptist Church in Nixa.
Granville was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Myrtle; his son William Dale Akers; a brother Homer J. Akers, Jr.; and a sister Jean Massey.
Granville is survived by his daughter Diane Rase and her husband Larry, of Nixa; daughter-in-law Lois J. Akers, of Springfield; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 27, 2015, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Bill Gilkerson officiating. Burial follow at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Thomas Cemetery, Norwood, with full military honors.
Memorial donations may be made to One Accord Free Will Baptist Church, Nixa to continue the Lord's work.
