Glywn Dora Young, age 95 of Nixa, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024. She was born November 18, 1928 in Seymour, MO to Thomas and Girlie (Odle) Taylor. On May 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to George Elmer Young Jr. in Ava, MO.
When she was a child, Glywn Dora’s family moved to Ava, where she was raised and later became a beautician. After their marriage, George and Glywn Dora moved to Wichita where their only child, Terry, was born. While in Wichita, she began working for Southwestern Bell and she continued her work there when the family moved to Springfield in 1960, then Nixa in 1963, eventually retiring from the company (AT&T) after 33 years of service. She was a member of the Springfield Life Members Telephone Pioneers and the Communication Workers of America.
Glywn Dora was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Church in Nixa where she served as a pianist as well as helping with Awanas and preparing meals for events. She was famous for her pies. Her hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels, making ceramics, and collecting dishes, tea cups, and angels. She loved spending time with family, especially at various restaurants. She maintained her quick wit and humor, even in her final days.
Glywn Dora is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Girlie Taylor, her husband of 64 years, George Young Jr, and her brothers Jack Gordon Taylor and Billie Joe Taylor.
Survivors include her son Terry Young and his wife Karan (Lenz) Young of Nixa; granddaughters Stephanie (Young) Nash and husband Jubal of Nixa, Alicia (Young) Inmon and husband Bryan of Rogersville, a grandson Jeremy Young and wife Clarissa (Childress) Young of Nixa; great grandchildren Taylor Inmon, Evan Nash, Savannah Nash, Emerson Young and Samuel Young.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa with Pastor Colter Rantz officiating. Private family burial will follow at Delaware Cemetery in Nixa. A visitation will be from 6-8:00pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa.
