Gerald (Jerry) Dean Phillips, 63 years old of Springfield, Missouri passed away in his home on Monday, August 20, 2018 after a year-long struggle with cancer. Jerry was surrounded by his wife and children at his passing.
Jerry was born in Pekin, Illinois on April 1, 1955, youngest child of Joseph and Jessie (Shay) Phillips. Jerry is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Greer) Phillips, daughter Deana and Paul Luehrs, son Gerald (Bo) and Melissa Phillips, and daughter Debbin and Michael Roach. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Audrey, Brooke, Payton, Dylan, Gerald (Dean), Paul II, Alyssa, and Norah.
Jerry had a life-long passion for his family, playing drums, and was an avid Cubs fan. Over the years Jerry kept in contact with his family in Pekin and enjoyed spending time there. Jerry was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren, spending time at ball games and other activities. As for playing the drums, he most enjoyed the times when his bands would play classic rock and roll. Whenever there was a Cubs game on everyone knew he would be in his shop listening to the game.
The memorial service for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 6:30pm at Praise Assembly church in Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics at www.cureangelman.org.
