Gerald Teddie McHaffie passed away at Cox South Hospital surrounded by his loving family on July 25, 2014 at the age of 79. He was born near Bruner, MO, on December 2, 1934 to Teddie Roosevelt and Georgia Ellen (Walker) McHaffie.
Gerald was a graduate of Rogersville High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Conflict. Upon his discharge in 1960, he returned to attend college at SMS in Springfield and transferred to the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, MO where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was named "Young Engineer of 1969" by members of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers. Gerald received a lifetime membership in this society.
On March 12, 1974, he married Patsy Gilreath Wooldridge in Knoxville, TX. To this union two daughters who he cherished were born, Mary Ellen McHafffie Koch and Catherine Elaine McHaffie.
Family history and the McHaffie heritage was a passion of Gerald's and he did extensive research on the family. He was a member of The Ozarks Genealogical Society and was a volunteer librarian there for many years. He loved hunting and spent many hours fishing with friends and his son-in-law, Tom Koch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilda Joann McHaffie Shockley.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Patsy; daughters, Mary Ellen Koch and Catherine Elaine McHaffie; step-daughters Patti Wooldridge Otradovec and Julie Wooldridge Murphy; two grandchildren, Ella Lucille Koch and Kyle McHaffie Koch; three step-grandchildren, Adam Gregory Otradovec, Bryan Alan Otradovec, and Allison Denise Bullard; one sister, Wilma Vay McHaffie Tindle; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM Monday, July 28, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors in McHaffie Cemetery
