George Henry Seemuth, JR, age 90, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016. He was born January 1, 1926 in Iowa City, IA to George Sr. and Gertrude (Solnar) Seemuth. George was a basketball star at St. Mary's High School in Iowa City, graduating in 1944. After graduation George joined the U. S. Navy serving in World War II, achieving the rank of Seaman First Class. George married Laura Vandenburg while in the Navy August 11, 1945, in Hutchison KS.
George worked as a pressman at the Economy Advertising in Iowa City for many years then at Bawden Brothers Printing in Coralville, IA as a supervisor. After retiring, George and Laura moved to Nixa, MO. He was known for his laughter and love of live. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and nature. George made sure he left you with a smile and he will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Laura; his children Barb Eastwood of Solon, IA, Steve Seemuth (Janene) of Mt. Dora, FL, Carol Stiles of Battlefield, Patti Seemuth of Springfield, Tom Seemuth of Iowa City, IA, and Rick Seemuth (Tiffany)of Coralville, IA; a brother Bob Seemuth (Lois) of Iowa City, IA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
George is preceded in death by his parents; a sister Margaret Seemuth; and his beloved dog Rowdy.
A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
