George Wesley Hawkins, age 96, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was born to Earl and Eva (Fox) Hawkins September 22, 1917, in Jamesville. On April 7, 1947, he and Cleva Hooton were united in marriage.
George served in the U. S. Army during World War II, in the 12th Armored Division, and the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion. He was saved in a fox hole near Alsace, France in 1945. George was a member of Seminole Baptist Temple since October of 1965. George enjoyed traveling, cars, and W.W.E. Wrestling. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Post 3204, American Legion Post #69, Disabled American Veterans, and 12th Armored Division Association, World War II.
Survivors include: Two sons and their wives, Guy and Jerri Hawkins, and Paul and Rosalee Hawkins, all of Springfield; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kizer and husband Charles, Celeste Dixon and husband Jeffrey, and Erin Hawkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Cyle, Cole, Madison, Grace, Isaiah, Evelyn and Sophia.
George is preceded in death by his wife Cleva; parents; and sister Marguerite La Pine.
A visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2014 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastors Don Baier and Mel Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Jamesville Cemetery, south of Nixa.
