Gene Edwin Asher, age 72, of Nixa, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, in his home. He was born May 2, 1943 in Springfield, the son of Rodger and Keithley Etta (Whittington) Asher. At the age of 10 Gene was baptized into the First Baptist Church of Nixa. He was a 1961 graduate of Nixa High School. Gene served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 until 1968. On November 12, 1967 he and Susan Jean Brooks were united in marriage.
Gene always had a love for horses and made managing horse breeding farms his business both in Missouri and Illinois. An outside person, Gene also enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers. He was a member of North Nixa Baptist Church. A people person, Gene was able to make friends with anyone he met.
Survivors include: His wife, Susan; a daughter, Ann McConnell or Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca Asher of Springfield, and Alexander McConnell of Republic; two great-grandchildren, Tamriel Main and Amory Barton, both of Springfield; two brothers, Joe Asher of Ozark, and Jerry Asher; a sister Rodgetta Henderson of Springfield; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 25, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Jerry Francisco officiating. Burial will follow in Richwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00PM - 6:00PM on Sunday in the funeral home.
