Frank Filmore Whitman, age 91, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013. He was born February 2, 1922, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of William Clinton Whitman and Grace Bryan (Wolfinbarger) Whitman. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Europe during World War II, and was wounded in action in September, 1944. On January 8, 1946, he and Georgia Nadine Thomas were united in marriage. Frank worked as an oil company truck driver in California. Upon returning to this area, he purchased a farm near Sparta. 32 years ago he moved to Springfield, where he worked in real estate until retirement. Frank was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield. Frank"�s wife, Nadine, passed away on June 9, 2013. He was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Whitman, and four brothers, Lee, Brian, Bill, Forest and Ross. Survivors include: Two daughters and their husbands, Sherril and Gail Larson of Neosho, and Joyce and Jarrett Iorg of Sparta; a daughter-in-law, Claudia Whitman of Sparta; six grandchildren, Sherri Coffer, Mark Iorg, Debbie Jenkins, Jerry Larson, Joel Sheldon, and Travis Whitman; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alta Thomas and husband Dale, Clova Dean Vollan, and Betty Bray and husband Dean; three sisters-in-law, Joann Whitman, Bernice Whitman and Lavern Allen and husband Bob; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 12:30 PM Tuesday, December 10, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM on Tuesday until service time. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
