Frances (Gatewood) Brewer, age 89, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Hernando, MS, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017. She was born August 16, 1927 in Marshall County, MS, the daughter of Homer and Irby (Patrick) Gatewood. Frances grew up in Tunica County.
She was married to Hugh "Speck" Denver Brewer Sr. To this union three children were born. Frances was a graduate of Tunica High School and attended Ole Miss. She and her husband owned and operated the Brewer's Store in Robinsonville, MS for many years. She was a member of Robinsonville Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women's Club. As a 50 year member, Frances was a founding member and officer of the Felix LaBauve Chapter of the NSDAR.
She was preceded in death in 2013 by her husband of 67 years, Speck, a brother and several sisters, a grandchild, Evan, and a great-grandchild, Jake.
Survivors include: three children, Hugh Brewer Jr. and wife Marcia, of Fordland, MO, Susan Gilliam of Springfield, MO, and O.C. Brewer of Greenwood, MS; grandchildren, Challie Dawn and Jeff Stark and daughters Madison and Mackenzie, Kara and Eric Livingston and children Maxwell and Ryn, Kristin Thompson and children Hadley and Brady, Carrie and Harvey Lucas and daughter Emma, Kyle and Tasha Collins and sons Beckett and Sawyer, Jody Taylor, Clair Jenkins and Jennifer Marranto; nieces and nephews, Judy Gionti, Debbie Everton, Patricia DeVries, Betty Dixon, Mary Ana Dixon, Billie Youngman, Bill Ford, Mickey Johnson, Pat Johnson, and Sue Oetzel; and cousins, Bubba Neeley, Mary Ann Friedrich, Leigh Miles, and Florence Cooper.
The family would like to thank loving caregivers Kate Lovell, Nicole White and Maria Nieto.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 4, at the Tunica United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Tunica. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Tunica United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
