Elsie Marie Marsh, age 92 of Nixa / Springfield passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018. She was born June 4th, 1925, to Emil and Mary Niewald. She is preceded in death by her parents, and six siblings Al, Vic, Kenny, Fred, Ella, Lorene. The Marsh family lived in Kickapoo and Leavenworth, Kansas for many years and she worked worked as a dental assistant and an oral surgery nurse at the VA in Leavenworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert J. Marsh. To this union there were three sons, Reverend Joseph Alan, Robert Steven, and Dennis Dean, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
During their time at Fort Leavenworth, Bob and Elsie were very involved with the Know Your World Program at the Command General Staff College, and sponsored 57 officers from 19 different countries from around the world. They were able to enjoy many trips to Europe where they visited their allied friends that they had become associated with.
After retiring in 1977, Robert and Elsie moved to Forsyth, Missouri and built a retirement home where they lived until their 50th wedding anniversary. They purchased a motor home and traveled for five years. Trips included traveling to Mexico, Alaska, and all of the US states, and all but one Canadian province.
After their travels, it was time to settle down, and enjoy their church family, neighbors, relatives and try to help others enjoy their lives. As the years have passed and while still in good health, Robert and Elsie were able to enjoy friends, family, and most of all, each other. They were very involved with the Lutheran Church throughout their lives, and were active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nixa, and were involved with starting several churches wherever they were residing.
A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 22, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Nixa. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Inurnment will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
