Ellen Marie Weed, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at the age of 78. Ellen was born on October 7, 1946, in the family home at 1313 Lincoln Avenue in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to the Eleanor and Earl Winscot, who passed away when she was 13 years of age. She was later lovingly raised as well by her stepfather, Leland Kress.
Ellen’s life was one filled with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family. On March 22, 1963, she married the love of her life, Ron Weed. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared over 60 years of marriage filled with laughter, strength, and devotion. They were blessed with three children—Doreen, Ron L., and Valarie—whom Ellen cherished with all her heart.
Ellen was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family. She was never shy to share stories about her children, and she lit up with joy when speaking of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She carried photos of them wherever she went, always ready to show them off to anyone willing to listen. Her family was her greatest pride and joy.
Though Ellen initially pursued education to become a teacher, her heart led her down a different path. She found her calling at the Nebraska Regional Center at Norfolk, Nebraska where she began as a sight tech before taking on the role of librarian—a position that brought her immense joy. Surrounded by books and people, Ellen created a warm and welcoming space where learning and kindness flourished.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Earl Winscot, and her stepfather, Leland Kress. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ron; her children Doreen, Ron L., and Valarie Weed; her treasured four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Shelly Weed. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her compassion, wit, and enduring love.
Ellen’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her laughter, wisdom, and warm spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
