Edward Dean Matney, age 65, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014. He was born November 11, 1948, in Springfield, to Ivan and Jewell (Medley) Matney. He served his country in the U. S. Army for 11 years, during the Vietnam War. The joys in Edwards's life were his kids and his grandson. Edward loved to fish, and was a big fan of cartoons. Edward drove a cab for Yellow Cab, in Springfield for many years, and was good with people.
Edward is survived by his children Patricia Gittings, of Rogersville, Shawn Matney, of Springfield, Cynthia Matthews, and her husband Christopher, of Springfield; a grandson John Matthews; his siblings Linda Smirl, and husband Jim, of Dadeville, Jim Matney, and his wife Cathy, of Highlandville, Pam Deckard, of Ash Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Jewell Matney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. A visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 21, 2014 in the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at a later date, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
