Gene Edward Estes of Ozark was born in Christian County on February 22, 1932, to John and Belle (Patterson) Estes. He departed this life on September 12, 2012. Gene was raised in Springfield and graduated from Senior (Central) High School in 1952.
Gene was united in marriage to Doris Sue Davis in 1952, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. Gene and Doris were the proud parents of Carol Sue, Joe Mark, and Gregory Gene. Gene was a lifelong farmer, continuing a Christian County farming tradition that has lasted for more than a century. He also had a passion for training and raising Border Collie dogs. He was a 50 year member of Ozark Friend Lodge. Gene was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved visiting with all of his family and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roger, and sons-in-law, Michael Taylor and Richard Greenwood.
Gene is survived by his wife, Doris; children Carol Taylor of Springfield; Joe Estes and wife, Lucinda, of Marshfield; Greg Estes and wife, Karen, of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Rebecca and Kenneth Barnes of Omaha, Neb.; Tracy and Jim Schmidt of Springfield; Julie and Chris Jones of Springfield; Cole and Amber Estes of Nixa; Kyle and Hollie Estes of Ozark; and Chelsea Estes and Kyle Shoemake of Springfield; six great-grandchildren, Alix, Colin, Reid, Abe, Lilly, and Eli; a sister Belva Lee Bull and Husband John; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Terry Kendrick officiating. A Masonic Service and burial will follow in Hopedale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Saturday until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
