NIXA - Dr. W. Victor Wood 97, of Nixa passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 after a short illness with pneumonia and heart issues at Mercy Hospital. He was born July 1, 1920 in Nixa, son of W.F. and Clara Wood. He married Lavenia L. Rice on December 27, 1941 and they celebrated nearly 77 years of marriage. He graduated from Nixa High School in 1938, attended undergraduate at SMSU and graduated UMKC School of Dentistry in 1943.
Victor then served in the US Navy as a dentist in the South Pacific and was discharged as a Lieutenant in 1946. He returned home at which time he started Nixa's first dental office and later formed Parkcrest Dental Clinic with nine other local dentists. He retired in1986 after completing 43 years of dentistry.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Nixa where he served as a deacon for over 50 years and volunteered in numerous community activities over his lifetime. Victor enjoyed golfing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, exercising and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr./Mrs. WF Wood and siblings Edna Wasson, Russel Wood, and Vonda Bodanske. He is survived by his wife Lavenia Wood, two sons Steven and Philip Wood, sister in-law Mary Holmes, nieces and nephews, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Nixa. Visitation will be held before the service from 12:30 PM until service time at 2:00 PM and a private family burial ceremony later at Delaware Cemetery of Nixa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Nixa First Baptist Church, 601 W. Wasson Dr. Nixa, MO 65714. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
