Dorothy Jean Parker

Dorothy Jean Parker, age 99, of Ozark, Missouri, long time resident of Independence, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born February 28, 1919 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Grace (Walker) Murrow. Dorothy grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and graduated from High School there. She attended Wayne University in Detroit, and became a Registered Nurse. On May 8, 1949 she and Homer Warren Parker were married in Independence, Kansas. Dorothy worked at Mercy Hospital in Independence until she started raising a family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Independence where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the UMW. She also was a member of the Independence Historical Museum and Arts Center, Monday Music Club and Kiwanitas. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, traveling and sewing. Survivors include: two children and their spouses, Jean and Gordon Dippel, of Ozark, Missouri, and David and Chere Parker of Independence, Kansas; four grandchildren, Amanda Dippel Balzer, Rebekah Dippel Flaming, Jon Parker, and Hannah Parker; and five great grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, Gavin, Alice and Lucy. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Homer in 2009, an infant son Homer Roland Parker, a grandson Daniel Parker, a sister Helen Howard, and her parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 20, in First United Methodist Church, Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy's name to Independence Historical Museum and Arts Center or the First United Methodist Church, Independence.
