REMEMBERING DOT
Dorothy “Dot” Pearl (Waite) McHaffie, age 82, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born November 20, 1940, in Greenville, Alabama, the daughter of Gemini Patrick and Dorothy Louise (McQueen) Waite. She was married on December 29, 1962, in Greenville, Alabama to James Glen McHaffie.
Dot graduated from Greenville High School in 1959 and attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, where she met her husband. In 1965, following college she and her husband served as pastors at Goodway Assembly of God in Goodway, Alabama. In 1969, they became pastors of First Assembly of God in Troy, Alabama. In 1977, they became pastors of Patterson Assembly of God in Patterson, Missouri. In 1993 they became pastors of Western Hills Assembly of God in Jefferson City, Missouri. In 1996, they moved to Springfield, Missouri, when her husband became the Missions Director for the Southern Missouri Ministry Network. Dot was very active in her work as a pastor’s wife. She also traveled to several countries with her husband in mission work.
Dot was a member of Life 360 Church in Springfield and enjoyed being a part of the Oasis ministry. She was always ready to pray for and give to missions and missionaries.
She was a wonderful mother. She was faithful to get up early and prepare breakfast and have devotions with her children before sending them off to catch the bus at 7:00 a.m. each morning. She cared deeply and prayed for her children every morning and evening.
She loved to fish and was an accomplished canoeist. She and James would float the St Francis River, Big Creek, and Finley River to enjoy the scenery and to fish. She loved sports and had played intramural basketball in college. She loved watching football and cheering on Alabama and Auburn. She loved her grandchildren and desired the best for them.
Dot is survived by: her husband, James Glen McHaffie; daughter, Melody Lynn Orrell (husband, Rick) of Springfield; son, James Andrew McHaffie (wife, Cara) of Wentzville; sister Jewel Wood of Springfield; identical twin sister, Jimmie Swanner of Lacey’s Springs, Alabama; five grandchildren: Jonah, Ruby, Brooklyn, Jaimey and Lainey; and one great grandchild, Charlie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Convoy of Hope.
Visitation will be from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 21 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Dot’s husband and son officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery following the Funeral.
