Doris Irene Waggoner was born January 31, 1924, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Arthur and Doris Smith. Irene passed away Monday, September 23, 2013. She met Joe Waggoner at an Army hospital during World War II, and they were married November 28, 1945.
Irene and Joe had six children. Survivors include Donna Serven and Dan, Larry Waggoner and Deborah, and Karen Selvidge and Keith, all of Ozark, Della Cobb and Bill of Carthage, and Ruth Loy and Darcy of Sparta. Irene is also survived by five grandchildren, Ben Waggoner, Amy Sullivan, Angie Heckart, Doug Serven, and Denise Tlustos; twelve great-grandchildren, Ruth, Cal, Drew, Anna, Genna, Travis, Lily, Karly, Josie, Samuel, Joel and Micah; three step-grandchildren, Samantha, Bryan, and Matt; a step-great-grandchild, Clara; nieces and nephews. Her husband of 64 years, Joe, passed away in 2010. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joetta, her parents, and three brothers.
Irene was a great mother and loving wife. Jesus was the focus of her life, and she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ozark. Irene and Joe loved to travel the world and had a passion for Israel. She was a great homemaker, seamstress, and prayer warrior to all her children and friends. She was a big supporter of the Senior Center.
A remembrance service will be 5:00 PM Wednesday, September 25, in the Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, followed by visitation until 6:30. A graveside service will be 9:00 AM Thursday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
