Donny James Atkinson

August 10, 1941 — April 14, 2012

Don Atkinson, age 70, passed away in his home, in Nixa, MO, April 17, 2012, after a long illness. He was born to Ralph and Ruby ( Maupin) Atkinson, August 10, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. He married his former wife, Liz Delisio in 1960, and had 3 children. Don married May Tharp, April 21, 1995. Don was most proud of his time as a Firefighter, with the Kansas City, Mo Fire Department. He especially enjoyed the comradery he had with his fellow Firefighters. He was active in his community, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Don loved his family, NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, and his 1941 Ford truck. Don was a master craftsman and was a part of building Arrowhead Stadium. He built many homes as well as many commercial projects over the years. Don had his own construction company for some time. Don retired from Allis-Chalmers, as Head Lineman. Don is survived by his wife, May, three sons, Chris and Terry Atkinson, of San Diego, Patrick Atkinson, Overland Park, and Joey Atkinson, San Diego, two step children, Phil and Sharon Gatten, Rogersville, and Craig Gatten, Nixa, his brother, Larry and Doris Atkinson, Parkersburg WV, and his sister, Janet Spaw, K.C, KS. Cremation is under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, MO
