Donald Bruce Mummert of Springfield, Missouri passed away on January 4, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Don, age 78, was born on November 9, 1945 to his parents (deceased) Donald Senior and Grace Mummert of Rosemead, California. Don graduated from Covina High School in 1964, where shortly after graduating, he was drafted to service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War—stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before reporting, he eagerly married his wife of 57 years, Patty Mummert. After his service to our country, Don relocated back to Southern California in the Los Angeles area, where he joined the family towing business, that covered Los Angeles, on behalf of V-Super Service (formally of Monterey Park, California).
During his remaining years in Los Angeles, Don and Patty had three children, Stacy L. Combs (husband Randy Fayetteville, Arkansas), Jeffrey D. Mummert (Springfield), and Jason B Mummert (Kansas City). After encouragement from Don’s wife Patty, the family returned to his wife’s hometown of Springfield, where for over 25 years they co-owned and operated Orange Julius at Battlefield Mall. Don, for many years was known as “that guy that worked at OJ.”
Don spent several years, nearing and during retirement traveling, driving for the blind, enjoying his wife, his children, his puppy Bella, and especially his three grandchildren - Abby G. Combs, Cooper H. Combs and Grace B. Mummert - where he was affectionately known as Poppy.
Although much more can be said about his history, many other things need to be noted about this great man. Don was truly one of the most genuine, hardworking, happy go lucky, congenial, gossip free, witty, honest, patient and loving man that is no doubt back in the arms of his parents and his sister Linda Mummert (deceased 2009). Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Missouri, from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024 followed by a funeral service officiated by Dr. Wade Bridges at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Rivermonte Cemetery in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Greater Missouri Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 901 E. St. Louis St., Suite 702, Springfield, MO 65806.
