Donald "Roy" Holbrook, referred to by his great and great-great grandchildren as "Opa", age 87 of Republic passed away from this life on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. He was born August 10, 1930, in Kennett, Missouri. On February 23, 1950, he and Betty Jean Boyd were united in marriage.
Roy retired after working many years as a Baker at Holsom Bakery in Springfield. He made many beautiful wedding, shower and birthday cakes for numerous friends and family. He also helped his sister, Linda and his brother-in-law, Eli, in making donuts, pastries and treats for their shop in Kimberling City. He was always working on or "fixing something" in his barn or garage, usually with a great-grandson by his side, excited to show them something. He loved his boys very much and was so proud to have great-grandchildren. Roy was a member of Westside Christian Church of Republic, where he served as an Elder.
Roy is survived by a granddaughter Danyel McBride and husband Brian of Republic; five great-grandsons Chase Gabbert and his wife Brittany, Ethan Gabbert, Brandon McBride, Josh McBride and his wife Lacey and Jared McBride; five great-great grandchildren; Brielle, Camrie, and Adalee Gabbert, Carter and Cason McBride; and a sister, Linda Sue Worley.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; two sons Don Holbrook and Mike Holbrook. his mother, Genera "Gerry" Rhodes and father, James R. Holbrook.
He was one of a kind, a character of sort; mischievous but loving. Dear to many hearts he will be greatly missed and leaves this world a better place
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Union Ridge Cemetery, south of Boaz.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
