Donald Roy Flott Sr, 82, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born October 14, 1935 near Emporia, KS, to the late George Flott Sr and Letha Smith Flott. He graduated from Emporia High School. He was united in marriage on May 11, 1957 to Beverly Gilliland.
Don was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany. Don started his banking career in Kansas City and was involved in banking for over 25 years. The favorite part of his job was mentoring young employees.
During his career, Don was very involved in many civic activities including elected city councilman for Merriam, KS and founding member of Big Brothers of America where he was awarded Big Brother of the Year in 1971. Don also enjoyed many hobbies over the years including gardening, woodworking, and especially researching and writing family history. Mostly he enjoyed meeting and talking to people and being with his grandkids.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly, son Don Jr (Ann), daughter Beth Biondo (Carl), grandchildren, Myles, Jessica, Jay, Isabella, Maria, and Carlina and brother Richard Flott Sr. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Burris and Margaret Draskovich, and brothers George Jr., Robert Sr., Lester and Jimmie Flott.
Memorial service will be held Thursday February 1, 2018 at 2:00 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, MO. Visitation will be held 1 hour before and 1 hour after the service.
