Derek Lee Johnson, age 48, of Nixa, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019. He was born May 22, 1971, in Grand Junction, CO. Derek grew up in the Colorado Springs area, where he played football and was a member of the wrestling team. The family moved to Aurora, MO and in 1989 Derek graduated from Aurora High School with multiple awards and honors for his football talents. He went on to play collegiate football for Central Methodist University on an athletic scholarship.
Derek was a member of the Glaziers Union in Springfield where he enjoyed friendships with his fellow co-workers. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Aurora. He was a proud father and loved his daughter above all.
Survivors include: His daughter, Moriah Johnson of Springfield; his mother, Bonnie Johnson of Aurora; his father, Donald Johnson of Aurora; a sister, Marci Dawson of Aurora; a niece, McKenna Dawson; and a nephew, Greg Maddocks.
His wife, Casey Hough-Johnson preceded him in death as well as a step-son, Scotty Altic.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Derek's name may be made to C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue.
