Dennis Alvin Meyer, age 90, passed from this life to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2024. He was born on January 19, 1934, to Albert Frazee and Grace Beatrice Meyer in a dugout cabin southwest of Webb, Oklahoma. Dennis grew up farming in Northwest Oklahoma, starting at age 6 driving a team of work horses alongside his dad’s team. He graduated from Taloga High School in Taloga, Oklahoma. He later moved to Colorado and then to New Mexico, where he worked in the uranium mines and oil fields, served as a mail carrier in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and pursued drywall work, which he continued throughout his life to supplement his income and support the construction and renovation of numerous church buildings.
Dennis married his wife Leota Fern Gore in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on June 17, 1956. He often referred to her as the best part of his ministry, contributing through her skills in playing the piano, singing, children’s ministry, cooking for countless funerals, evangelism, and church dinners. They were blessed with two sons, Alvin (born 1957) and Billy (born 1962).
Affectionately known as Brother Meyer, Dennis was ordained as an Assemblies of God minister in October 1967. He graduated from the Berean Bible Course through the Assemblies and dedicated over 60 years to pastoral service.
He served as pastor at the following churches: Cloudcroft Assembly of God, Cloudcroft, New Mexico, from Feb 20, 1961, to June 28, 1965, Leedey Assembly of God, Leedey, Oklahoma, from June 28, 1965, to Nov 10, 1968, Fletcher Assembly of God, Fletcher, Oklahoma, from Nov 17, 1968, to June 7, 1989, Community Bible Church, Miller, Missouri, from June 8, 1990, to May 20, 1992, Founded Friendship Assembly in Heatonville, Missouri, from June 3, 1992, to Dec 10, 2012, Sterling Assembly of God, Sterling, Oklahoma, from Dec 16, 2012, to Sept 16, 2013, Reestablished Friendship Assembly in Sterling, Oklahoma, from Feb 16, 2014, to Jan 8, 2020 .
Dennis is survived by his two sons; Alvin and his wife Monique of Highlandville, MO, their five children, and ten grandchildren, and Billy and his wife Rebecca of Wauseon, Ohio, and their daughter Grace.
He is also survived by his sister Lenna Suddath, brother-in-law Leon McDowell, and sister-in-law Linda Meyer. He was preceded in death by his wife Leota Fern Gore, his parents Albert F. and Grace B. Meyer, his sister Inez McDowell, his brother Alan Meyer, and brother-in-law Jerry Suddath.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 am, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Taloga Assembly of God Church in Taloga, Oklahoma and 2:00 pm, August 14, 2024 at Thrive Church in Nixa, Missouri.
