Dennis George Brown, age 76, of Nixa., Missouri, passed away March 21, 2023, in his home.
Denny was born on March 12, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jack and Margaret Brown. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa.
Denny and Jill Jespersen were married May 3, 1969, and to this union two sons were born: Michael Dennis and Kirk Matthew.
Denny served his country in the US Air Force from 1966 – 1974. At one time he was stationed in Japan where he traveled throughout Southeast Asia on TDY trips. Following an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he received his bachelor’s degree at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.
The family then moved to Iowa where Denny was employed for Bandag for 20 years, where he also traveled extensively.
Denny then decided a career change was wanted so he taught at NEC (National Education Center) in Des Moines from 1991-1995. When the school closed, he interviewed at OTC in Springfield, Missouri where he was hired on the spot. He taught there until retirement in 2017.
He was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nixa. Denny’s interests also included watching the Kansas City Chiefs, old movies, and answering questions alongside Jeopardy Contestants.
He thoroughly enjoyed his two trips to Jerusalem during his travels and he will always be remembered as a remarkable and caring teacher.
Survivors include: His wife of 53 years, Jill; two sons, Michael and wife Michelle, and Kirk and wife Michelle; five grandchildren, Zach, Jake, Simon, Miles, and Vivienne; his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Jespersen; a brother, Dave Brown; two sisters, Karen Whipple and Patti Brown; nieces, nephews; and many friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Saturday, March 25, until service time at 11:00 AM in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Nixa, with Rev. Jarod Koenig officiating. Military honors will be provided following the service. Burial will be at 3:00 PM Monday, March 27, in Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Nixa.
