Denise Alice Gunja

Denise Alice Gunja, age 59, of Nixa passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017. She was born October 27, 1957 in Appleton City to Joseph and Margaret (Taylor) Gerard. She was raised in Montrose and graduated from Montrose High School. She also attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Denise was united in marriage with Joseph Gunja July 2, 1982. Denise was a wonderful mother and wife. She doted on her grandchildren and was their Nana. Denise was the anchor of the family. Denise was a giving person. She was always where she was needed. Denise's husband worked in the Federal Prison system and they moved very often. She was always able to make a house a home. Everyone was her friend. Denise was always concerned for others and was never concerned for her own needs. She and Joe loved to go to garage sales, exchange things on Ebay, and most importantly spend time with their grandchildren. Denise is survived by her husband; her two children Gina Peek of Nixa, and Christopher Gunja, his wife Noelle of Redding, CA; grandchildren Hannah Jo Peek, Hailey Rose Peek; sisters Ruth Gould her husband Rick of West Point, NE, Deborah Dines, her husband Jerry of Appleton City, and Martha Cook, her husband Rick of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Denise is preceded in death by her parents. A visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Friday, June 30, 2017 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. A funeral service will be at 12:30 PM following the visitation. A graveside service will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society.
