Delbert Eugene Howard, age 82 of Nixa, died April 10, 2022. He was born July 28, 1939 in Spokane, the son of Wilbur S. and Elsie M. (Lee) Howard.
Delbert was a great musician. He taught himself to play by ear and could play just about anything with strings. He played fiddle with the Baldknobbers in a covered wagon before they had their theatre, and he often enjoyed jam sessions in his home with fellow musicians and friends. Delbert's preferred instrument was the steel guitar. In addition to his love of music, Delbert also restored classic cars and loved a good "horse trade".
Delbert is survived by four sons: Rocky Howard and wife Dawn of Springfield, Kevin Howard and wife Gay of Nixa, Danny Smith and wife Amanda of Nixa, Lonnie Howard of West Plains, and Delwayne "Dell" Howard and wife Vicky of Willard and two daughters: Deana Taylor and husband James of Sedalia and Michelle Smith of Ozark. He also leaves behind scores of grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; Elsie and Wilbur, his wife, Jackie Smith; and three brothers, John, Fred, and Huston Howard.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Cremation rites have been accorded by Adams Crematory.
