David Winston Dawson, age 84, of Ozark, passed away in his home early Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born August 23, 1940 in Springfield, the son of David Winston and Freda Mae (Payne) Dawson. He graduated from Central High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Navy the same year. After serving his country for three years David returned home and received a bachelors from SMS (MSU). On June 7, 1963 he and Linda Lea Earls were married. He returned to his education and in 1971 was granted a masters degree from Drury College.
David spent thirty years as an educator. He served in Hurley, Crane, with most of his career spent with the Ozark School System. In 1995 David retired as Director of Elementary Education.
His family was the most important part of his life. He loved each member and was proud of all their accomplishments. He enjoyed vacations both his family and friends. A member of Fremont Hills Golf Club, David enjoyed playing golf with family and his many friends. He was able to enjoy the 2024 summer golf season.
Survivors include: His wife Linda; three children Kim McKnabb and husband Tim, of Ozark, Christopher Dawson of Ozark, and Richard Scott Dawson of Springfield; grandchildren, Brandi Foster and husband Price, Ian McKnabb and wife Erin, Sophia Dawson, Carrie “Darcy" Masters, and Jeremy Masters; great-grandchildren, William McKnabb, Dylan Passwaters, Madison Passwaters, Marcus Masters, and Brayden Cable; great-great-grandchildren, Cody Passwaters, and Maverick Passwaters; a brother Dan Dawson; and sisters-in-law, Carol Sue Dawson, and Jan Eyler and husband David.
David was preceded in death by: A granddaughter Jessica Drennan; a brother, Douglas Dawson; his parents; and his parents-in-law, Harvey and Jody Earls.
A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, with full Military Honors. Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory and arrangements under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
Memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
