Mr. Dana Albert Thomas, age 88 of Springfield, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 in Mt. Vernon Veterans Home. He was born March 6, 1925 in Pickens, West Virginia, the son of Cecil Albert and Rosa (Rothenbutcher) Thomas.
On September 13, 1944, he married Ottobelle Horne. Dana served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Kraft Foods as an electrician after 32 years. Dana was a member in good standing in Masonic Lodge Solomon #271 AF & AM, Springfield, Daylight #678 AF & AM, Springfield, The American Legion Post 0069 for 38 years, Springfield, The American Legion Post 0676 for 29 years, Springfield, Abou Ben Adhem, A&A Scottish Rite, Joplin, several local VFW posts and a lifetime member of Elks #409. He and Ottobelle were active in the Debonair Dance Club for many years.
Survivors include: Danny Thomas and wife Gale, Forsyth, LouAnn Trent and husband Jim, Springfield, Dana Yates and husband Everett, Springfield and Michael Thomas, Kansas City; seven grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; a sister, Rosa Stolzelberg, Fargo, North Dakota and a brother, Dale Thomas, Las Vegas.
Dana was preceded in death in 2005 by his wife of 60 years, Ottobelle Horne Thomas; a son, Max Thomas; a brother; two sisters and a granddaughter.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
A visitation will be 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
