Dana Craig DeFeo, age 57, of Nixa, died April 12, 2015, in his home after a terminal illness. Dana was born May 8, 1957, in Orange County, California. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, ATVs, and riding his jet skis on the lake. His passion was firearms, which he collected as a hobby. He was proud to share his accomplishments at the range and the many competitions he won through Bass Pro Shop, including national competitions.
On September 8, 1979, he and Darlene were united in marriage for nearly 20 years, and had one son, Scott DeFeo. Dana worked at Kraft Foods and the American Red Cross where he developed special friendships.
Survivors include his very special grandson, Charles "Cody" DeFeo; his sister, Lark Schaffer of Lake Arrowhead, California; his beautiful niece, Katarina Kolde; and his brother, Jeff DeFeo of Aliso Viejo, California. Dana was preceded in death by his father, Tony DeFeo, and mother, Donna Laird.
There will be no services held per Dana's request. He asked to be cremated and his remains spread among the desert sands. It was there that he spent many happy days with his best friend of 50 years, Tom Lee, who will be honoring his wishes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Good Shepherd Hospice for their love and compassion, not only to Dana, but also his caregivers, Darlene, former wife, and her husband, Steve Myrick.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, Springfield.
