Curtis Edward Major, age 22, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, July 12, 2024. He was born September 13, 2001 in Springfield, Missouri to Toby and Cynthia “Cindy” (Hulsey) Major. Curtis was united in marriage to Alyssa Marie (Sparnicht) Major on July 31, 2021. 

 Curtis graduated Nixa High School in 2020 where he enjoyed playing for the Nixa Eagles football team. Besides his football, he loved spending time with his father fishing and hunting and hanging out with his friends, Matt Vorse and Phong Vo. 

 Curtis is survived by his wife Alyssa Major; his parents Toby and Cindy Major; a brother Jonathan Brannon and his wife Caitlyn, Bolivar; his grandparents Tony Hulsey and wife Lana, Springfield, Missouri, Anita Gustaveson, Republic, Missouri and Nick Major and his wife Glenda, Illinois; his aunts and uncles, Bucky Smith and his wife Katherine, Springfield, Missouri, Julie Hulsey Byrom and her husband Blaine, Republic, Missouri, Niki Schapeler, Springfield, Missouri, James Hulsey, Pennsylvania, Carolyn Sneath, Hermitage, Missouri and Kim Smith-Gaither, Benton, Arkansas and Tony Major, Bolivar, Missouri; his cousins, Kaden Dawson of Republic, Missouri, Raelyn Schapeler, and Derek Schapeler, of Springfield; his mother and father in law, Annessa Leigh and Geoffrey Sparnicht; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. 

 He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Karen (Constable) Smith and Kathy (Constable) Major; a grandfather, Marvin Loofbourrow; a brother in law Christopher Leigh; a grandmother-in-law Jan Sparnicht; an aunt-in-law Trisha Sparnicht; and great grandparents. 

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support over the past four years. A special thanks to Curtis’ co-workers at Cox South Surgery Department, their church family at Word of Life Marionville, Missouri and the many, many prayer warriors both known and unknown. Cindy and Alyssa want to thank their Senior Leadership team at Cox Health Plans for their unwavering support and allowing them time off and to work remotely while they took time to care for Curtis. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Brian Van Tine, and Dr. Ryan Jackson and their medical teams for their care and treatment that gave Curtis 18 months with no evidence of disease to create lasting memories with his family that they will forever cherish. A special thanks to Allie Martino, BSN, RN who provided care to Curtis as though he was her own family member. 

Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Vorse, Jonathan Brannon, Phong Vo, Derek Schapeler, Kaden Dawson, and Saul Castro. 

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024, followed by a Celebration of Life at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri with Pastor Kevin Inman officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support the sarcoma research efforts of Dr. Brian Van Tine at Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University. Checks may be made payable to Siteman Cancer Center with “Curtis Major” written in the memo line and mailed to Siteman Advancement Office, MSC 1082-414-2555, Washington University 1 Brookings Drive St. Louis, Mo 63130-9989.
