Claudia Bachmeier was born in Flasher, North Dakota, and was the youngest of eight siblings. Her parents ran a ranch just off the Cannonball River in south central North Dakota. When she was still a young girl the family moved to Bismarck where they eventually opened an interior decorating business called Interiors by Florence. Claudia graduated Saint Mary's Central High School where she was a cheerleader and participated in the 1967 Homecoming Court. Following high school she attended Bismarck Junior College.
Claudia had several siblings living in Southern California and made numerous trips to visit. On one of her visits she met her future husband, Henry (Hank) Jarrell, and they were married June 1, 1970.
Claudia's working career was in the medical profession, starting as a medical assistant in a doctor's office and then in the admitting and insurance departments for Clairemont General Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital, and Rady Children's Hospital, all in San Diego.
When Claudia's first child, Alan Matthew, was born in 1975 she became a stay-at-home mom. Her second child, Jennifer Kay was born in 1977. Both children attended Saint Columba Catholic School where Claudia became involved in various groups associated with the school and church. Once the kids became older Claudia returned to the administrative work at the hospitals.
Retiring in 2004, she and Hank visited family living in Bellingham Washington and Ozark, Missouri. They found Missouri to be a very pleasant place and, in 2008, moved to a house a few doors down from her sister, Elsie.
In 2011 Claudia was diagnosed with dementia. She struggled with the disease until August 19, 2018, when she passed away from pneumonia as a complication of a fall which broke her hips.
She is survived by Hank, her husband of 48 years, son Alan Jarrell, daughter Jennifer Jarrell, her grandchild Jesse Jarrell and step-grandchild Ewan Tolmie, and four siblings, Dorothy, Ernie, Vicki, and Ardy. She is preceded in death by her brothers Duane and Joe, and sister Elsie.
