Chuck Heavin

February 21, 1945 — January 9, 2015

Chuck Heavin, age 69, of Sparta, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 in his home following a long battle with ALS. He was born February 21, 1945 in Seymour, Texas, the son of Clarence and Elsie (Pribyla) Heavin. He grew up in Baxter Springs, Kansas and graduated from Joplin High School. Chuck served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He and Melva Hibner were married in November, 1967. Chuck was a founding member of Countryside Christian Church in Ozark. He was a local businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit, varying from mechanic to real estate and more. Chuck served as a councilman for the City of Ozark. He loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, horseback riding, and most recently enjoyed writing short stories. Survivors include: His wife, Melva; two sons, Chris Heavin and wife JoDee of Ozark and their children Brody and Emilee, of Ozark, and Marc Heavin and wife Dena and their sons, Marcus and Nicholas, of Ozark; a brother Wayne Heavin, of Springfield; a sister, Helen Ege and husband Jerry of Jenks, OK; uncles, Charles Heavin, Rex Heavin, and Charles Pribyla; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 14, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Rodney McCann officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 -7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association in care of the funeral home.
